K STREET JEWELRY MISSION

I adore making jewelry.  Pretty much everywhere I look, I see the potential for turning something into another thing that can adorn the body.  With that in mind, starting a jewelry business was the natural progression for me to have an outlet to free up space in a very crowded single car garage to store more jewelry supplies and finished product.

I want this business to touch the community beyond selling handmade jewelry for payment.  I want each customer to know they are giving back to the community with every jewelry purchase.  And I want to spread the word that making jewelry is so darn easy.  A bag of beads, cord, a needle and clasp.

When I leave home for more than a few hours, I bring a small bag of beads and cord so if I encounter a stretch of downtime (flat tire, delayed flight, doctor’s office waiting room, bedside of friend or family, waiting for an oil change), I can pull out the little pouch and make something.  It is soothing, the physical and mental repetition, the immediate clearing in my mind for creative space.  Time flies.

The simplicity of finding a space to create gave me the idea that making jewelry is something anyone can do anywhere.  And if I find it soothing, so will others.  And if I can build a website to sell what I make, so can others, or, I can dedicate space on my website to sell product made by artisans other than myself.  Traveling down the road of this thought process brought about the true mission of K Street Jewelry -  create a simple space, within my community, in which people, jewelry making supplies and design ideas come together, sparking creation and commerce.

The first step is to launch the K Street Jewelry website.  Check.  Next, partnering with community organizations that serve clientele receptive to the simplicity of embracing creative space, that might not have access to jewelry making supplies and would benefit from the mental gifts creating can be counted on to give.  This step is underway.  I’m reaching out to organizations about collaborative opportunities.  Stay tuned.

In the meantime, 15% of each purchase will be earmarked for spending on jewelry making supplies, specific to teaching simple techniques and the mindset that creativity can happen everywhere.  Additional information forthcoming as this part of the K Street Jewelry business plan unfolds.
